Games for Youth Ministry? There’s an App for that!

It’s a rainy afternoon, the activities you’d planned aren’t going to work now, and despite your wealth of youth ministry experience, Plan B is well and truly in the back of your mind and you’re struggling to bring it forward. Sound familiar? This could help!
Don Bosco Youth-Net has released a games App for Smartphone and tablet. The App consists of a unique collection of over 240 games to inspire group activities. The game App is a fun and interactive tool to be used by animators and youth workers on youth exchanges, summer camps or training courses, as well as an inspiration for playing group games in youth clubs, schools and oratorios. You can download the Games App free from ITunes or Google Play.

The App has a search function where you can search on name, age group, type of playing area, type of game. There is a special search function, which searches for games appropriate for “playground animation”. These activities are ideal for animation during lunch-time breaks in schools. The games use a set of symbols as extra illustrations for the type of game: for example, grass if it is for outdoor play or ,an umbrella to show the game can be played inside.

Create a list of your favourites by clicking a heart at the top of the screen, or shake your Smartphone, for a random game from the collection. The range of games also provides inspiration for you to adapt the ideas to your own needs and the cultural situation of your group.

The games collection is within the App, so once you’ve downloaded it, you don’t need an Internet connection to use it.

Created by DBYN’s Belgian member organisation in Dutch, the British Salesians have supported the translation of the App into English. Development of the App was co-financed by the Erasmus+ programme and the European Youth Foundation.
