National Youth Sunday in 2016 marks the conclusion of the Year of Mercy The NYS website reflects on this Sunday’s Gospel, and on acts of mercy:
‘In the gospel for National Youth Sunday, we see how God’s Mercy rips through the pain of the good thief as he sees Jesus for who he really is and asks: ‘remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ Imagine his surprise at Jesus’ response ‘today you will be with me in paradise.’ Jesus in that moment, there on the cross, takes on the past faults of the thief, dies in his place, so that the thief can join him in paradise.
The same mercy that the thief experienced is available to us. Here are some of the ways that we can receive this mercy.’
