On December 8th 2015, Pope Francis initiated a Jubilee Year of Mercy. This special year concludes on 20 November 2016.
To mark this, Missio, the Pope’s official charity for overseas mission, and its children’s branch Mission Together, have produced Primary and Secondary versions of the assembly Our Mission; To Be Merciful. These assemblies focus on the key themes of the Jubilee, help explain mercy and mission, and emphasize the ongoing call to act mercifully. As the refugee crisis continues, CAFOD’s Advent calendar this year has the theme ‘welcome the stranger’ – one of the corporal acts of mercy, and includes scripture and daily actions.
The Apostleship of the Sea has some great assembly and lesson plans based on the ‘Apostle of the Slaves’ on its website.
The resources are for Stage 2 and 3/4, and provide interesting material on his life and work, and on how the Apostleship of the Sea follows in his footsteps in ministering to seafarers today.
