Excitement is building for WYD2019 – but Panama just isn’t do-able for many of us. But if you want the WYD vibe without the big journey and the cost, what about World Youth Day @ Home?
The Youth Services of the Dioceses of Leeds, Salford, Shrewsbury and the Archdiocese of Birmingham have come together to create a weekend festival from 7-9 June 2019, hosted at Alton Castle. It will be celebrating all things WYD, but much closer to home.
Here’s what the organising team says: “It’ll be very much like WYD, but without the breeze of the Pacific Ocean and there will no beach as Alton Castle is about 100 miles from the coast, but there will be lots of awesome young people, a sense of community, great speakers, inspiring workshops, uplifting music, opportunities for prayer and access to the Sacraments. All this for a fraction of the price of travelling to Panama … why would you not want to be there??”
You could do some of the spiritual prep pilgrims are doing (See the set of catechetical lessons Panama2019 have produced), and be part of the WYD experience a bit later in the year.
As planning is still in progress, it’s really important that the team has an idea of likely numbers, so if you’d like to take a group of young people to WorldYouthDay@Home, visit the website and register your interest as soon as you can.
